User Reviews about PuppetShow: Mystery of Joyville [Game Download]
I'm not sorry I played it - twice - because it really is completely beautiful to look at. It's very steampunk, especially the Inventory tool - loved it. And I was charmed by the rat dragging the puppet head across the floor. Nice touch!
But I'm marking it down, because that's really all it has going for it. At least it wasn't obnoxious, which is why I give it 4/5 for "fun". The story was just okay, as usual - the story's seldom great, is it? - though a little disturbing, especially towards the end when it seemed like a translation that had been rushed. The hidden object parts were too easy, though at least the objects were naturally placed (I hate it when there's a horse or something floating in the air). The puzzles were also pretty easy; though I find that relaxing (I don't play these games to get all wound up with frustration), it makes the game go too quickly.
It's a hard balance to strike, to make the hidden objects and the puzzles challenging but not frustrating, and not many games get it right. One way to do it is to have lots and lots of hidden object searches and puzzles. This game just didn't have enough of either. Before I knew it, the game was over, and the hateful "TO BE CONTINUED" appeared on the screen. I won't be rushing to buy it if it ever comes out.
Also, I played it a second time, and it seemed like it was exactly the same. Disappointing. -- Utterly gorgeous - way too short
I was slightly skeptical about this HOG. However, I so enjoyed it. The story, plot, games moved rapidly along, and I was constantly surprised that I had reached the next stage of the game. I only had one issue with the game and didn't run into to it but the one time. When I reached the place where I had to fix a broken ladder, I knew that I had the tools to fix it, but couldn't get them to work properly. I found a walkthrough which helped. I played another game where I had to place the object exactly on a specific spot before they would work. That was the answer to the situation. I was about to get frustrated with the game as I thought it was a bug. I was so overjoyed to learn that was not the case. One of the things that I found pleasant was that I didn't have to go back to the same room over and over again. The graphics were great, and for once I really did not cringe with the music playing one song from beginning to end as it changed to fit the mood of the place I was. Over all it was a super game. Hope you enjoy this game as much as I did. -- SURPRISED
I love this game. The puppets create a sense of emotion that is difficult to describe, the music is captivating, and the objects are not so hard to find that you feel you'll go blind. I did find the puzzles to be super simple, so not much of a challenge there. But this game is not about challenging the brain. It's about enjoying a creepy story that has great artwork and the ability to both scare you and enchant you at the same time. It's like reading a really good book with great illustrations. -- eerie and fascinating
What a beautiful game! Not only nice to look at, but fun to play as well with the added bonus of a creepy, "spidery" puppet who darted in and out of the scene. The hidden objects were fairly easy to find and the puzzles did not require a degree in physics to solve. I'm looking forward to the second installment. -- I Loved It.
